David has a wide ranging commercial litigation practice with an emphasis on competition law and regulation, public law, company law, contract law, and international law. David has appeared in the High Court, Court of Appeal, Privy Council and Supreme Court in a wide range of civil and commercial cases, and has represented clients in mediations and arbitrations.

David also has a substantial involvement in law reform and legal policy advice. Projects which David has undertaken, in addition to his litigation practice, include advising Parliamentary Committees and Government Departments on a wide range of commercial law and cross-border issues; representing the New Zealand Government in bilateral and multilateral negotiations; conducting a Ministerial Inquiry into ACC Funding and Accreditation of Physiotherapy Services; and providing commercial law reform and policy advice to the New Zealand Government, other Governments, and intergovernmental organisations.

David was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in May 2003.
